Should the instrument live on?
Disposal is the last resort. If the piano only needs to go somewhere else, other rates apply, and these are the right pages.
Costs, bulky waste, proof

What does it cost to have a piano disposed of?
A piano on the ground floor in Vienna costs 396 euros including VAT. That covers the collection, the transport and 96 euros incl. VAT for landfill and handling. Every floor without a lift and every kilometre outside Vienna is added. The calculator above shows your case line by line.
How do you dispose of a piano properly?
In three steps: we arrive with the special van for pianos, carry the instrument out of the flat and take it for proper disposal. You receive proof of this on request. Driving to the waste yard yourself fails on the weight and the equipment.
Is the landfill fee included in the price?
Yes. Every total contains 96 euros incl. VAT for landfill and handling. You pay nothing extra at the waste yard.
Why does the calculator ask for only one address?
Because the destination is fixed: our yard in 2232 Deutsch-Wagram. Only the way there is calculated. If the collection address is in Vienna, no kilometres are ever charged, for Vienna addresses the calculator charges no travel at all, not even for the way from Deutsch-Wagram to Vienna. Only in Lower Austria does the distance from Deutsch-Wagram count.
May an old piano go out on the street or to bulky waste?
No. A piano counts as bulky waste and belongs neither on the pavement nor in the stairwell. In Vienna the MA 48 regulates the disposal of bulky waste, and illegal dumping can become expensive.
Can I dismantle and dispose of the piano myself?
Technically yes, in practice rarely. A piano weighs between 200 and 400 kilograms and cannot be taken apart like a piece of furniture. Without special equipment, damage to the door frame, the staircase and the floor happens quickly.
Is the instrument dismantled or disposed of whole?
We deposit the instrument whole. Only in rare cases do we dismantle it on site, when the upright or grand piano cannot come out of the flat the normal way. We charge that work separately, and we tell you beforehand what it costs in your case.
Do you also collect a damaged or unplayable piano?
Yes. Cracks in the soundboard, broken strings, water damage or woodworm change nothing about the procedure. An unplayable instrument costs the same as a playable one, what counts is the floor, the staircase and the distance, not the condition.
And if my address is neither in Vienna nor in Lower Austria?
Then the calculator does not cover it. Send us the address and two photos, we will check the trip and give you a fixed price. For trips to the other federal provinces the rates on our page apply Piano transport Austria.
Piano disposal in numbers
All rates and rules in one place, to read, compare and pass on. All amounts incl. 20 % VAT.
- Base price upright piano
- 300 € incl. VAT on the ground floor and the first floor, 240 € incl. VAT from the second floor upwards. A lift counts like the ground floor, so the higher base price applies then, but without a floor surcharge.
- Base price grand piano
- 420 € incl. VAT up to 190 cm in length. A grand piano over 190 cm is calculated individually; two photos are enough for a firm offer.
- Floors
- Only the collection address is counted. For an upright piano the first floor by a straight staircase is included in the base price of 300 €; from the second floor each one costs 36 €. Up a spiral staircase each floor costs 48 € , with only one floor 36 €. For a grand piano 60 € per floor by the straight staircase and 72 € up the spiral staircase. With a usable lift the surcharge does not apply.
- Access on site
- Steps before the ground floor and a mezzanine or raised ground floor each cost 36 € incl. VAT. Both items can occur together.
- Travel
- Only if the collection address lies outside Vienna: 1,20 € incl. VAT per kilometre from 2232 Deutsch-Wagram, with no minimum distance. For the kilometres over 100 there are 0,60 € per kilometre incl. VAT for the return trip. The first 100 kilometres stay free of surcharge. If the collection address is in Vienna, never are any kilometres charged, not even for the way from Deutsch-Wagram to Vienna.
- Flat fee
- 96 € incl. VAT, contained in every total. It covers landfill and handling, and you pay nothing extra at the waste yard.
- Tax
- 20 % VAT on the whole amount. All rates on this sheet are understood incl. 20 % VAT.
- Worked example
- Upright piano, ground floor in Vienna, level access, straight staircase: 300 + 96 = 396 € incl. VAT
- Area
- Vienna and all of Lower Austria. Other federal provinces we calculate on request, the address and two photos are enough for a fixed price.
- Instruments
- Upright and grand piano. A piano weighs between 200 and 400 kg and cannot be taken apart like a piece of furniture.
- Procedure on site
- We arrive with the special van for pianos. The instrument is carried out of the flat by two to four carriers, depending on the instrument and the staircase. After that it goes straight to disposal.
- Recycling
- We hand the instrument over whole to a certified disposal company. The materials are separated there: the cast iron frame as scrap metal, plus wood, felt and electronics.
- Proof
- The written confirmation of the proper disposal is available on request.
- Appointment and answer
- An answer to every enquiry within 60 minutes. Appointments at short notice are possible, just ask.
- Company

Important price information about the disposal calculator
These notes supplement the amounts shown in the calculator: what is not included and under what conditions the values apply.
- Crane, lifting platform or outside lift if the staircase, door or courtyard is too narrow.
- Removal of doors, windows or railings.
- Dismantling the instrument in the flat if it cannot come out the normal way, we charge that separately.
- Disposal of other furniture or objects from the same flat, which we take on only as part of a move.
- Grand pianos over 190 cm, which we calculate individually from photos.
