A mute function for upright and grand pianos
A silent piano system is a mute function for acoustic upright and grand pianos. A switchable stop rail catches the hammers before they touch the strings. Sensors under the keys pick up every stroke and reproduce the sound digitally through headphones. In normal mode the piano works as usual.

How does the silent piano consultation work?
Enquiry and assessment: brand and model, the height of the instrument, its approximate age, photos and your living situation. On that basis we assess whether a retrofit makes sense. Advice and choice of system: we advise you honestly on which silent system suits your piano. Not every instrument suits every system. If a retrofit does not make sense, we say so openly. If you would rather part with your instrument instead, the piano purchase in Vienna is also an option. Installation and tuning: we arrange the installation through experienced specialist partners. After the installation the piano has to be tuned, and we take care of that straight afterwards.
What is a silent piano?
A silent piano is an acoustic piano with a built in mute function. A lever stops the stroke reaching the strings, while sensors reproduce the sound digitally through headphones. In normal mode it works like an ordinary piano. Well known factory systems: Yamaha Silent Piano, Kawai AnyTime. Retrofittable: Adsilent, Genio, Feurich Silencer.
Can a silent system be retrofitted?
Yes. Systems such as Adsilent, Genio or Feurich Silencer can be fitted into many pianos. The condition: the piano has to be at least 108 cm high. On grand pianos a retrofit is not possible on every model. The cost is between 1.500 and 4.500 € including installation. We advise you whether a retrofit makes sense for your instrument and arrange experienced installation partners.

What are the disadvantages of a silent piano?
The feel in silent mode is noticeably different, because the hammers are stopped before the strings. The sound quality through headphones does not reach the acoustic original. Maintenance and repair are also more expensive than on a purely acoustic piano. Older silent systems lose value quickly.
Does a silent piano need tuning?
Yes. A silent piano has to be tuned just as regularly as any acoustic piano. The silent function changes nothing about the string tension. Especially after a silent system has been installed the instrument should be tuned. MK Klavier Art offers piano tuning in Vienna and Lower Austria .
